Dealing with SPAM
One of the biggest annoyances with email is the amount of SPAM floating around, and this is made worse when your email address is plastered all over your site. What do you do? You need to advertise your email address as it is good business sense. Fortunately Personal Design can help. All Personal Design email servers check for SPAM and will mark messages in their subject as such. You can then add a rule in Outlook to move them to a folder for you to review, or simply delete them - your choice.
How to configure Outlook
- In Outlook, click Tools > Rules and Alerts
- Click New Rule
- Select 'Move message with specific words in the subject to a folder'
- In the Rule Box (second box in the screen) click on the word 'subject' to define the words. Enter *SPAM* and click Add, then OK.
- Now click on the word 'folder' and select the folder you want the messages moved to. Junk Email would be a good choice.
- Click Next
- Here you can change the action to be delete if you wish (and trust that these messages are truely SPAM)
- Click Next
- Add any exceptions if required and click Next
- Give the rule a name to recognise it by and tick "Run this rule on message already in 'Inbox'" to clean it up. Click finish.
It is also worth checking that you do not have 'Catch All' selected against your email accounts. There is no cost to send SPAM (well not for the majority sending it anyway) so a common technique is to guess email addresses that might be present for a domain such as webmaster, sales, info, john, etc. The 'Catch All' option routes all incorrectly addressed email to a valid account which would mean all of these guesses will end up in your mailbox. Simply turning off this option can reduce your level of SPAM considerably. See Create a new email account for guidance.

These tips really helped, however it is worth pointing out one of the basics. Be wary of junk emails - unsubscribe links may simply identify your email address being active. If it looks like spam and you haven't signed up, don't click on anything, just delete it!
